More Birds

This fall for some reason there seems to be a lot of birds getting caught in the netting. We have had the fencing up for almost 2 months and have not had any problems until now. I am wondering if the bird migration season is bringing birds into the area who have no experience with changes to this property.

The first bird I found was on September 25 and can be found at this post.

The next bird on October 8 was found upside down in the netting and had struggled so hard his wing was damaged and had some raw spots around his back. He was not very energetic so we took him inside and put him in a box to let him rest overnight. Gave him some food and water. Unfortunately, he did not make it.

On October 12 we found two birds tangled close together. When one chirped in distress the other would act stressed also, we wondered if they were a pair. The first one that was tangled had his tongue all wrapped around the netting. We finally had to cut the net to allow the freedom of untangling. I was able to get most of the strings off, but the one around his tongue was very challenging and he escaped and flew away before the last of the strings could be removed. Hopefully he could get it off himself.

The second one was untangled and we tried to release her but one leg was not moving properly so we took her inside and this time kept her in an old fish tank and gave her food and water. The next morning she seemed to have enough energy and was able to fly away. Watching her though, the leg was still giving her problems and landing on a tree was a bit of a challenge. Hopefully she does well.

There was another bird found the same day, with no pictures. But was successfully untangled and flew away.
